Abstract

Out of 82 national CPI monitoring cities, in September 2019 there were 12 cities experiencing inflation and 70 other cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Meulaboh by 0.91 percent and the lowest occurred in Palopo City and Watampone by 0.01 percent. While the highest deflation occurred in Sibolga City by -1.94 percent and the lowest in Surabaya City by -0.02 percent.
Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda City and Balikpapan City) in September 2019 experienced deflation of -0.27 percent with calendar year inflation rate of 1.41 percent and year-on-year inflation rate of 1.73 percent.
In September 2019 there was a deflation of -0.46 percent in Samarinda City and deflation of -0.03 percent in the City of Balikpapan.
Deflation in Kalimantan Timur was affected by a decrease in the price index in the foodstuff category which experienced deflation of -2.01 percent and in the health group with deflation of -0.08 percent. Meanwhile the other 5 groups experienced inflation, namely the clothing group by 0.54 percent followed by the recreation and sports education group by 0.35 percent, the processed food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.16 percent then the transportation and communication group which experienced inflation by 0.12 percent and the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group by 0.05 percent.
