Abstract

  • In January 2021, out of 90 cities on national CPI monitoring, 75 cities experienced inflation and 15 other cities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Mamuju at 1.43 percent and the lowest occurred in Ambon and Balikpapan at 0.02 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Bau-Bau at -0.92 percent and the lowest at -0.01 percent occurred in Pontianak.
  • In the province of Kalimantan Timur (Combined Samarinda and Balikpapan Municipality) in January 2021 there was an inflation of 0.14 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 0.14 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 0.60 percent.
  • In January 2021, inflation for Samarinda was 0.24 percent and Balikpapan was 0.02 percent.
  • Inflation occurred due to price increases as indicated by increases in several indexes for the expenditure group, namely: the clothing and footwear group by 0.69 percent; followed by the food, beverage, and tobacco group by 0.37 percent; the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.33 percent; the personal care and other services group of 0.21 percent;
  • the information, communication and financial services group of 0.18 percent; equipment, tools, and household routine maintenance group by 0.12 percent; the education group of 0.07 percent; and the food and beverage / restaurant supply group; health group; and the housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups experienced inflation of 0.03 percent respectively. For the transportation group in January 2021, it experienced deflation of -0.26 percent.
