Abstract

  • In August 2021, of the 90 municipalities monitored by the national CPI, 34 municipalities experienced inflation and 56 other municipalities experienced deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kendari at 0.62 percent and the lowest at 0.01 percent occurred in Tanjung. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Sorong at -1.04 percent and the lowest at -0.03 percent occurred in Meulaboh, Sukabumi and Timika.
  • Kalimantan Timur Province (Samarinda Municipality and Balikpapan Municipality Combined) in August 2021 experienced a deflation of -0.17 percent with a calendar year inflation rate of 1.10 percent and a year-on-year inflation rate of 1.13 percent.
  • In August 2021, deflation occured for Samarinda Municipality with -0.20 percent and in Balikpapan Municipality by -0.14 percent.
  • Deflation occurred due to a decrease in prices as indicated by a decrease in several indexes of expenditure groups, namely: food, beverages, and tobacco by -0.92 percent; followed by clothing and footwear group by -0.25 percent; and the health group by -0.04 percent. The groups that experienced an increase in the index were the education group by 0.82 percent; then personal care and other services group by 0.34 percent; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 0.24 percent; housing, water, electricity and household fuel groups by 0.12 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.06 percent; and the transportation group and the recreation, sports and culture group by 0.05 percent each. The food and beverage/restaurant supply group tended to be stable compared to the previous month.
