Abstract

  • The Human Development Index (HDI) of Kalimantan Timur Province in 2021 has increased compared to the previous year. The HDI of Kalimantan Timur Province in 2021 is 76.88, an increase of 0.64 points compared to the HDI in 2020 (76.24).
  • The improvement in the progress of human development in Kalimantan Timur in 2021 is marked by an increase in the HDI rate of 0.84 percent, after previously growing negative by 0.48 percent in 2020.
  • The increase in HDI in 2021 is due to an increase in all of its constituent components. This is different from the conditions in 2020, where the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the human development performance of Kalimantan Timur Province to decline due to a decrease in the value of adjusted per capita expenditure. In 2021, adjusted per capita spending rose 3.31 percent compared to 2020.
  • In terms of education, in 2021 children aged 7 years have the hope of enjoying 13.81 years of education or almost equivalent to the length of time to complete education up to Diploma I/II level. This figure increased by 0.09 years compared to 2020 which reached 13.72 years. In addition, the average length of schooling for residents aged 25 years and over also increased by 0.07 years, from 9.77 years to 9.84 years in 2021.
  • In terms of health, babies born in 2021 have an expectation of being able to live up to 74.61 years, 0.28 years longer than those born in the previous year (74.33 years).
